Chaos brigade shadowrun6/12/2023 ![]() You don't need to be formally trained for a magic tradition to work. Your character concept as is could actually be any magic tradition, but without some underlying belief framework she'd be one of the awakened individuals who never learns to wield it. It's not that you can't write a character backstory that works with Chaos as written, it's that to me the way the lore is written Chaos magic shouldn't work and adding it to the book kind of trampled the established lore.Ĭhristian Theurgists are able to cast spells not because God and Saints actually exist, but deep down in the deepest core of their being they BELIEVE that they do and that belief in an awakened individual allows them to manipulate the mana field.Ĭhaos contradicts that by allowing them to use methods of magic they don't believe in. She's part of the chaos "tradition" because she never really had any other options. She couldn't exactly afford a proper tutor or even a trip to the average talismonger to figure out what to do, she just kind of trusted that the things she picked up on worked, even if she doesn't know how or why. She taught herself a few things, but a lot of it was just what she saw working for others. Shes never had any formal education, not even to train her abilities when it was discovered she was Awakened, and there wasn't even a street shaman in their shantytown to help her learn. She's got a Squatter lifestyle, a Barrens Special, and the nicest thing she owns is a garnish red armored jacket that only has its color because bleach spilled on it when it was black. I'm making a street rat type, who goes by Red Riding Hood. Let me pitch you a character I've been working on for a bit of my thought process. Chaos I see as not caring about any of it. I still think Hermetics are a bit more scholarly by virtue of procing off Logic. "Watch your back, shoot straight, conserve ammo, and never, ever, cut a deal with a dragon." Sadly our nova hot community isn't the best place to discuss the mechanics discussion or troubleshooting the video games. Mostly the pen and paper role playing game, but also the deck building card game, video games, and literature of Shadowrun. Discussion is primarily aimed at exploring narratives found in the Sixth World. Here at /r/Shadowrun we talk shop about all things in the shadows.
